September/Chapter/Manual-Question 13 on Lesson Two

Continuing on the subject of honesty:
C13:4:3:7–8:  You have been as selective in your questioning as in your perception. An open mind is more honest than this.
An open mind is without judgement, and our judgements are all rooted in our past memories, however inaccurate. So lesson two requires us, through indiscrimination, to overcome our past-based judgements, so we can begin to see things as they are now without the frame of reference of our individual memories.

C13:4:5:1–5:  "Now"  has no meaning to the ego. The present merely reminds it of past hurts, and it reacts to the present as if it were the past. The ego cannot tolerate release from the past, and although the past is over, the ego tries to preserve its image by responding as if it were present. It dictates your reactions to those you meet in the present from a past reference point, obscuring their present reality.
This quote the context is on relationships with people. Its lesson is identical to Lesson Two: "I have given every person that I see [in this place] all the meaning that they have for me." What it is also saying is that honestly belongs in the present—the now.

On Saturday, Abby and I went to see Drew Barrymore at an eTalk taping, promoting her new movie and directorial debut.

She has two choice pieces of advise for everyone, in line with ACIM:
Be your own hero.
Recuse yourself.
Jesus talks often of the "sole responsibility" you have. You can only change your own mind at your decision. Others may encourage you or lead to a decision, but only you can truly make it. We can't wait for and expect others to swoop in and correct our mistakes, which are rooted in our false perceptions.

Our pursuit of truth is us taking responsibility.

I'm hoping that those who heard Drew's words understand them soon.

Aaron
